The Lao Statistics Bureau (LSB), the Ministry of Finance on behalf of the Census Steering Committee has kicked off a series of training sessions to equip the census enumerators and supervisors with knowledge and skills to conduct field data collection scheduled to begin on November 3 to December 28, 2025.

These training exercises supported by the Lao government, UNFPA and development partners such as DFAT Australia, China Aid, Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), Luxembourg, Development Cooperation, United States of America and others, have begun since August 25. The training includes Training of Trainers for Master Trainers, Training of Master Trainer, Training of Trainers and Training of Enumerators and Supervisors. All of these training aims to build the capacity of enumerators to use digital devices to collect the data in quality.
On the Census date of November 3, 2025, more than 8,000 trained enumerators and supervisors will be deployed to collect data from all households nationwide. The data gathered from households during the Population and Housing Census will provide crucial information to inform national development policies, social services to create a brighter future for everyone.

The Population and Housing Census is one of the largest statistical operations organised every 10 years in accordance with the Statistic Law. The census aims to collect vital data namely on the number of population, size, structure, growth and distribution of population disaggregated by sex, age, ethnicity, marriage status, disability, housing conditions, access to services, birth, deaths, migration, labour force, education and employment and so on. Census data offers a snapshot of people’s living conditions, highlighting both challenges and opportunities. This information empowers the government to formulate relevant policies and interventions over time.
